Website Research - Tuesday 24th February 2015
Above are two stills from Superfood's official website. The uppermost screenshot is the homepage of superfoodjunk.com, where all the most important information relating to the band's current state is clear. But, in the bottom right, you will see an 'enter full site' link which leads to the screen shown in the second still. This adopts a very different theme to that of the first which I found interesting, though in themselves both screens compliment the playful, colourful, light-hearted nature of Superfood's music very well.
Avi Buffalo is the recording project of American Avi Zahner-Isenberg, who has his roots in home recording and lo-fi music. The website itself has a minimalist, amateurish, homemade feel to it, which parallels his musical ethics onto the internet. There are no other pages, just the artwork from his most recent LP and a list of all dates on his current tour, with links to buy tickets for each of the shows.
Eagulls are a post-punk band from Leeds whose music is gloomy, loud, and shamelessly inspired by bands from the initial 'wave' of post-punk like Bauhaus, Killing Joke and The Chameleons. The production on their eponymous debut album (the artwork of which serves as the background for their website, but in black and white) is raw, noisy and explosive, hence why their website hosts the image of a burnt out car. The text is yellow which is not always easy to read over a black and white background, perhaps to mirror the discordance and dissonance in Eagulls' music.
Childhood draw a lot of influence from early psych-rock and innovative 90s indie like shoegaze and dream pop, so it seems only natural that the artwork for their debut album came across as psychedelic and dream-like. The colourful background of their website is based on their album artwork and is constantly moving and changing shape, befitting of their music and image: their press photos often look hazy and heavily filtered.
Pavement are often lumped into the category of a slacker-rock band, and the title and some of the art on the homepage of their official website lends itself well to this. The title and small drawing of a snake are meant to look as tough they have been torn from somewhere and pasted onto the website like it was a scrapbook, giving this website a 'scrappy', unfinished feel overall which many would feel is in-keeping with the band's music.
Finished Website

This is my finished website which I produced on wix.com. I considered using the more advanced Dreamweaver software to design and create my website, but I had never used it before, so after a couple of sessions with it I ultimately decided that to learn how to use it and then create a website from scratch would be too time consuming. Wix allowed me to create what I feel is a relatively professional looking website and I am happy with the result.
